How to Tell If a T-Shirt Is Good Quality Before Buying
Check the fabric weight (220 GSM or more for heavyweight), the cotton type (combed is smoother), whether it is pre-shrunk, the print method, and whether the seller publishes a full size chart and clear return terms.
The t-shirt quality checklist
| Check | What to look for |
|---|---|
| Fabric weight | GSM stated clearly; 220+ for heavyweight |
| Cotton type | Combed cotton for a smoother, stronger feel |
| Shrinkage | Pre-shrunk, with washing guidance |
| Stitching | Even, tight seams; taped shoulders if offered |
| Collar | Thick rib that springs back after stretching |
| Screen print or quality transfer, with no cracking at the edges | |
| Seller | Full size chart, shipping and return policies published |
How each check helps
- Fabric weight: the GSM number tells you how thick the tee is. See What does GSM mean in a t-shirt?
- Cotton type: combed cotton is softer and pills less.
- Shrinkage: a pre-shrunk tee keeps the size you ordered. See Do oversized t-shirts shrink?
- Print: the method decides how the graphic ages. Compare them in Screen print vs DTG vs DTF.
- Seller: published policies show what happens if something is wrong.
